Jan Manker – Swedish artist. Performs paintings, prints, artworks in public spaces and curatorial consultancies.
ABOUT
I was born in 1941 in Stockholm and underwent my education at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm 1964-1969. My first exhibition took place at Gallery Observatorium 1964, and I had a retrospective exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm 2005. In between, I have had over 60 solo exhibitions around Sweden and have also participated in exhibitions abroard, such as Musée d´art moderne de la ville de Paris and Arts Council London 1966, Red Brick Warehouse Yokohama 2012. I am represented in the collections of Moderna Museet (Stockholm), the art museums in Norrköping, Göteborg, Borås, Malmö, Örebro, Hälsingborg, Västerås and at Centre de la gravure in La Louviere, Belgium.
My works contains of paintings (mainly acrylic), prints in different techniques and of artworks in public spaces. To see my previous work, please look at ”Konstverk” at this homepage.
Besides my artistic work, I have been teaching at Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm) 1968-1977, and was curator of Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening (Swedish Association for Art) 1995-1999. I was also engaged in the founding and running of Grafikens Hus (Center for contemporary Fine Art Printmaking) 1993-2007.
